30-Day Minimalism Game

My Messy World is joining the 30-Day Minimalism Game 😀 Whoop Whoop!!! I must confess, I started a few days ago so I could be ahead and plan the posts as there’s just no way I’d be able to post a picture every day from now on^^ But the challenge stays the same – for the next 30 days I’ll be sorting and giving away things – one item for every calendar digit.

The first item of my game is a gorgeous Indian dress I’m passing on to a good friend – it’s truly beautiful but I just never had a chance (or better – never made an oportunity^^) to wear it. Better than it sitting around in my closet, I’ll pass it on to her as I know she’d fall in love with it and will truly wear it ❤

I first read about the challenge a few weeks ago here  and it immediately got me interested (the whole website is worth a look, actually!!!). A month only – and still so much here to give away and declutter? Surely sounds like a plan and manageable! So I picked a time with not many trips abroad where I could actually realize the plan and – here I am 🙂 I’ll try to do the challenge on my own as it’s always so hard to get people and friends into the same boat. Besides – most of them don’t even know I blog about my mess 😉 … But who knows – maybe someone would like to join me? Bring it on!!! 😀

I’ll be posting a picture of what items I got rid of every day, until day 30, when I’ll post a summary of everything with my thoughts on the challenge and how I did. At least – I hope I’ll manage to finish the challenge!!! Wish me luck 😀 !

Here are the rules listed again as an overview for yourself, taken from the website www.theminimalists.com :

Find a friend or family member: someone who’s willing to get rid of their excess stuff. This month, each of you must get rid of one thing on the first day. On the second, two things. Three items on the third. So forth, and so on. Anything can go! Clothes, furniture, electronics, tools, decorations, etc. Donate, sell, or trash. Whatever you do, each material possession must be out of your house—and out of your life—by midnight each day.

It’s an easy game at first. However, it starts getting challenging by week two when you’re both jettisoning more than a dozen items each day. Whoever can keep it going the longest wins; you both win if you can make it all month. Bonus points if you play with more than two people.

After researching for a while, I found that there are several types of different 30-Day declutter challenges. Have you ever joined the Minimalism Game, or another declutter challenge? How did that go? Fill me in and share your link below, I’d love to hear about it 🙂

  1. Yay! 30 day minimalists game! This was my challenge for January, but honestly I lost steam at the end and haven’t quite finished up. I have put a deadline on myself to post my final update next week, so I have to finish up the last few days before then! I’m excited to see you do it too!

      1. I think I’m at day 23… So I have day 23 – 31 left to complete my January challenge… I hope to have it done to post on Tuesday next week… The first few days were easy… then I started having to find more and more stuff… It’s a lot harder to find 20 things than 5…
